Jai-Yn Lin
Jaiyn Lin is currently studying for a Master's in the Department of Fine Arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts. Her work primarily focuses on the process of transforming existing objects, delicately balancing intuition and personal sensibilities to place materials in a state between ‘being like’ and ‘not being.’ She particularly emphasizes how well-formed shapes are arranged and the preliminary sketch states preceding them. Jaiyn Lin’s solo exhibition ‘Not presentable’ was held at the Madeleine Art Gallery, Taipei, in 2023. Her works have also been featured in group exhibitions including "Life before the Doomsday," Banqiao Broadcasting Station, Taipei, 2021: "Forms#1__Project of Curating Practice, " National Taiwan University of Arts North Campus Art Village, Taipei, 2019.
Jaiyn Lin explores the inherent representational aspects of image technology, contemplating how images preserve both past and momentary feelings by depicting insignificant and accidental events of everyday life. Whether it is the sudden accident of “Oops! Spilled water, grab the phone!” or the commonplace scenario where “one gets bitten by a mosquito, feels itchy, and scratches the hand until it breaks,” the artist finds intrigue in these minor events. Through two installation artworks, “It seems like... ‘Ah!’” series and “It seems like... itchy,” Lin navigates between emotional experiences and photography, allowing the narrative presented in flat imagery to seamlessly transition into physical space through tangible objects.
